    What exactly is Euromnis?

    ————————————–

The Euromnis experience can be difficult to describe to those who have never been. Since its inception in 1998, the conference has been developer led and brings together those of varying skills to learn about and discuss best practices, coding techniques, performance tips, databases, web applications, dev-ops and more.

For most of its existence, the conference has been run as a not-for-profit, never having had paid staff. Succeeding years build on the previous where we ask speakers having a vast depth of experience to lead sessions that are between 2.5 and 3 hours in length. Each year, about 30% of the speakers are new, having been sought out specifically for interesting topics in emerging areas.

Speakers provide notes and actual code to participants which demonstrate techniques described in their sessions. By design, the sessions are interactive and limited to small groups to encourage participation and maximum learning. The learning goes beyond the sessions as discussions continue over meals and often late into the evening. We often find groups debating the pro and cons of ideas from sessions; sitting around, getting their hands dirty as they try out the concept in their own application.

Omnis Software’s plenary session on Wednesday afternoon discusses the Studio development road map. They also highlight new features in forthcoming versions of Studio. It is followed by a feedback session where key Omnis engineers and conference participants discuss needs and features. In the past, plenary session feed back resulted in useful enhancements like background workers, performance measurement, oBrowser, git export, multi process server model and more. Omnis engineers and management are onsite most of the week, ensuring the direct interaction between Omnis Software and developers is an essential part of the conference.

It is worth looking at last years sessions and speakers to get a sense of what will be presented. Sessions will evolve as speakers spend time from now till the conference revising sessions, building new topics to keep things fresh and incorporating features from latest Studio releases.
